In the wake of the freezing rain that has fallen across the country, the Red Cross is ensuring the continuity of its assistance to the most vulnerable and is further strengthening its commitment to those who are suffering most from this exceptional situation.
The Wanteraktioun remains open without interruption and the Nightshelter has extended its opening hours to protect beneficiaries from the freezing rain, while streetworkers continue to meet homeless people.
Carers from Help, our homecare network, are also continuing their home visits throughout the country. The day centres remain closed so as not to expose clients to the risk and discomfort of travelling. Our carers go to clients’ homes to give them the care they would normally receive in a day centre, and also make sure they have a hot meal.
The Blood Transfusion Centre in Luxembourg City remains open, but will have to make up for the low number of donations made today over the coming days.
The Maisons Relais and Nurseries, as well as other establishments that take in children on a regular basis, will continue to welcome them. The youth centres remain closed, but the educators are available to young people by telephone or videoconference.
All the residential facilities are operating normally, while the consultation services are adapting their operations to take account of travel difficulties, for example by offering telephone or online appointments. Some activities, such as training courses, have been rescheduled or cancelled to prevent the risk of accidents to beneficiaries.
