Food aid available to those facing financial difficulties because of the Coronavirus crisis
The Luxembourg Red Cross and Caritas Luxembourg are extending the services of their social grocery stores – “Croix-Rouge Buttek” and “Caritas Buttek” respectively – to a wider group of people: from now on, individuals or families who have come into financial difficulties due to the current Coronavirus crisis will also have access to those shops, which offer food and everyday products at a greatly reduced price. In this way, the two partners are underlining their determination to help those in need, especially in difficult times.
This aid is open to residents of Luxembourg whose current financial difficulties are the result of the Coronavirus crisis – even if they are not yet registered at an “Office Social” and haven’t yet received food aid.

“Croix-Rouge Buttek” and “Caritas Buttek” are so-called “social grocery stores”, which offer food and hygiene products to financially less well-off people at prices up to 70% below the market price. These people are thus given access to fresh quality products, and their purchasing power is increased by the same token. The Red Cross and Caritas run a total of 12 such shops nationwide; they are located in Clervaux, Diekirch, Differdange, Echternach, Esch/Alzette, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg City, Remich, Mersch, Redange/Attert, Steinfort and Wiltz. The “Buttek” are supported by Spëndchen asbl and an extensive network of suppliers and partners. The initiative is also supported by the “Ministère de la Famille, de l’Intégration et à la Grande Région”.
