ISRAEL/GAZA CONFLICT

Following the outbreak of armed violence in Israel and Gaza since 7 October 2023, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Magen David Adom in Israel and the Palestine Red Crescent Society are working tirelessly to bring relief to the victims of the conflict, applying the principles of neutrality and impartiality defined by the Geneva Conventions and the organisation’s statutes.

HUMANITARIAN AID

Despite the danger, our humanitarian workers on the ground are continuing to help the wounded in Gaza and Israel. Hundreds of ambulances are on the road, and our colleagues are providing first aid to thousands of people. Psycho-social support has also been put in place.

In Gaza, more than one and a half million people have been displaced, and many of them have seen their homes and neighbourhoods reduced to rubble. Delivering humanitarian aid is also part of the ICRC’s work.

We deplore the deaths of colleagues from the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Magen David Adom in Israel while carrying out humanitarian missions to help the civilian population. We are desperately calling attention to the fact that medical and humanitarian personnel should never be a target.

BRING FAMILIES TOGETHER

As a neutral intermediary, the International Committee of the Red Cross handled the transfer of hostages held in Gaza and the Palestinian territories. The hostages were relieved to be reunited with their loved ones.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the International Committee of the Red Cross has been calling for International Humanitarian Law to be respected in order to protect civilians and secure the release of the hostages.
