26 April 2023
In parallel of her participation to the conference on autonomous weapon systems in Luxembourg, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), met on 25 April 2023 with the leadership of the Luxembourg Red Cross for a first exchange of views following her appointment in October 2022. The meeting was an opportunity to review the partnerships and synergies between the supra-national body of the world’s largest humanitarian movement and the national society of the Grand Duchy.
“The Luxembourg Red Cross and Luxembourg in general are important partners for the ICRC. The work of the Luxembourg Red Cross in Ukraine is a perfect example of the efficient collaboration within the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, even in the most complex crises.“
Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the ICRC
“Without the ICRC’s support, there are many countries where we could not guarantee safe conditions for our humanitarian delegates. Whether in Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of Congo or a growing number of countries in the Sahel, it is thanks to the ICRC that we are able to provide day-to-day assistance to the most vulnerable people.”
Michel Simonis, Secretary General of the Luxembourg Red Cross
