The Blow

My gas bill just tripled, a slap in the face. I do EVERYTHING to cut my consumption.

I shower with my little Mathéo, and Sofia takes a shower every other day, 30 seconds max. Start the clock, we turn on the water, wait for it to warm up, and then go. Tick-tock, a real time challenge. She plays the game so strictly, she slipped on the bath mat. Nothing serious, we laughed about it, but my single-mom heart breaks as I put them to bed wearing two sweaters and holding a hot water bottle.

This month is even more difficult. I need to go back to the social worker. I heard about the Red Cross Solidarity Fund, but I don’t know if I qualify yet. Fingers crossed, toes too! It keeps my feet warm.

I will manage to pick up some extra hours at work, but this year, it will not be enough for my children’s birthday gifts, just to pay overdue bills.

I need to find a long-term solution. This situation is becoming unbearable.

When the wallet is empty and the fridge too, the Red Cross material and food aid are a vital support.
